                Parable about one greatest desire
                (Притча об одном заветном желании)


       In fair Novgorod, where a father dwelt, whose love for his sons did his heart melt, he prayed to the heaven day and night, for guidance and protection with all his might.
       One day, an angel came down to him, with a question that made his eyes brim. «What is your greatest desire? » asked the spirit. Without hesitation, he answered with all his might. «If it were in my power to do, I'd become a Guardian Angel true, for my children and future generations to come, watching over them until their time is done. »
       The archangels were surprised by this plea, and to God they went, asking for decree. God looked down upon the father with grace, and said, «Your wish shall be granted in this place. »
       After he passed away, he became a Guardian Angel bright, watching over his children day and night. He protected them from harm and guided their way, his love for them growing with each passing day. As time went by, his sons had children too, and the father remained their Guardian Angel true. For generations he watched over his kin, ever devoted, his love never growing thin. Thus, the father's greatest wish was granted with glee, and he fulfilled his role with great dignity. His legacy of love and devotion never faded away, as he watched over his kin, night and day.

       So let us remember this tale of love and grace, and cherish our kin, in every time and place, for the love of a father shall never depart, and his watchful eye shall never grow dark.
