               «Unfettered Wings After Years of Captivity»


       I watched a documentary «Andean Condor Release in Seclantаs Salta» about the release of a condor that had spent several years in a zoo cage. Photographers gathered, their lenses aimed high, for the moment when freedom would paint the sky.  They froze in anticipation of what would happen. The condor, it stood on a rock so high, above misty valleys and azure sky. Perplexed, it stood, in disbelief, its newfound freedom, a welcome relief. The condor spread its wings and paused. It didn't know what to do with them yet, but it could already feel the wind filling them with strength. It shifted from foot to foot, turning on the rock without lowering its wings. It was uncertain about its movements. Then it tried to lift its feet off the ground and leap into the alluring space ahead, but it was scared. It had never done this before. It seemed like those wings had been an obstacle and a source of many questions before, but now everything fell into place.
       We look at him, and it seems to us that he has almost understood who he is, why he has wings, and what he is truly capable of. The condor resumes stepping on the rock, turning in different directions, as if trying to feel the direction of the wind. It folds its wings, but immediately opens them to embrace the sky, attempts to flap its wings, but remains standing. It stands for a long time. Minutes pass. Photojournalists capture beautiful shots of the proud and happy bird.
       We feel that the condor is getting used to the new reality, reprogramming itself for freedom. It's no longer in a cage. Everything now makes sense, something that was sorely missed for many years. We, as humans, look at him and understand that the past years in captivity were a pity, but now the condor has realized who he is, and that realization is worth a lot. Other birds fly in the sky. He looked up again, took a step, flapped, and began to hover over the abyss. With a few flaps, he gained altitude and joined a carousel of others like him.
       The same happens to a person who gains freedom after many years of captivity. «We've learned to fly in the air like birds, to swim in the water like fish; now we just need to learn to live as humans do...»

          
                «Свободные крылья»


       Я видел документальный фильм «Cоndor Andino Luracatao en Seclantаs Salta» о том, как кондор был освобожден из зоопарка, где несколько лет провел в клетке. Вокруг собрались фотографы, чтобы снять момент его свободы. Они замерли в ожидании того, что случится. Кондор стоит на высоком камне, а под ним простирается сизая глубина горной долины. Птица в замешательстве. Она не может поверить в происходящее. Кондор расправляет крылья и замирает. Он еще не знает, что с ними делать, но уже чувствует ветер, который наполняет их силой. Он переминается с ноги на ногу, разворачивается на камне не опуская крыльев. Он не уверен в своих движениях. Затем пробует оторвать ноги от земли и прыгнуть в манящее впереди пространство, но ему страшно. Он никогда так не делал. Кажется, что эти крылья раньше мешали ему и вызывали много вопросов, но сейчас всё сложилось.
       Мы смотрим на него и нам кажется, что он почти понял, кто он, зачем крылья и на что способен на самом деле. Кондор снова продолжает переступать на камне, разворачиваясь в разные стороны, словно хочет почувствовать направление ветра. Он складывает крылья, но тут же раскрывает свои объятия небу, пытается взмахивать крыльями, но стоит. Долго стоит. Минуты проходят. Фотожурналисты снимают красивые кадры гордой и счастливой птицы.
       Нам кажется, что кондор привыкает к новой реальности, перепрограммируя себя к свободе. Он не в клетке. Теперь всё обретает смысл, которого так не хватало долгие годы. Мы люди, смотрим на него и понимаем, что жаль прошедших лет в заточении, но сейчас кондор понял, кто он, а это дорогого стоит. В небе летают другие птицы. Он посмотрел снова вверх, шагнул, взмахнул и стал парить над бездной. Несколькими взмахами набрал высоту и присоединился в карусель таких же как он.
       Тоже самое происходит и с человеком, получившим свободу после долгих лет заточения. «Мы научились летать в воздухе, как птицы, плавать в воде, как рыбы, теперь нам осталось научиться только жить, как люди...»
