The sailor s blood

                dedicated to Dr.Brian May

Regrets, remorse
From chime to chime…
I am a victim of my crime.
No way to go, my vessel’s dark.
I brought you all into my ark.
It tells me in a plaintive voice
That I was wrong, I had a choice –
To sail alone past towns and bays,
Contouring all the shoals and cays.
You ate my flesh,
You drank my blood,
You threw the stones,
You threw the mud.
I sheltered you from hail and rain,
And then you did it all again.
I blame you not
But bid farewell.
My ark is yours – no fear of hell!
My loneliness is in my bones.
I feel it rise, I hear it moan.
Through storms and winds,
Through droughts and floods
I’ll go alone.
It’s calling me…
The sailor’s blood.
My blood.
