We Remember You, Dale Lonis
**"We Remember You, Dale Lonis"**
Dale and I shared many memorable experiences, although our communication was often limited to a translator. He had a deep appreciation for conducting the orchestras in Israel, often praising their musical expertise. Each visit brought him the opportunity to collaborate with a new orchestra.
Dale's first invitation to Israel came from my friend Sam Vider, a conductor and teacher. Sam reminded me that today marks what would have been Dale's 70th birthday.
Beyond conducting, Dale was passionate about teaching. He held master classes for student orchestras and teachers, where he would often invite us to bring our instruments. One memorable session involved studying pieces by American composers. After an hour of practice, we performed those works in a concert for students from various conservatories—a cherished memory for me.
During his master classes, I occasionally had the chance to conduct the orchestra in front of Dale. These experiences significantly improved my conducting skills and shaped my career.
Dale's last visit to Israel was nine years ago. He often described his time here as a holiday, relishing the opportunity to reconnect with friends and enjoy the beauty of our country and its people. "For me, visiting your country is like a holiday," he would say. "I love sharing my passion for music with those who appreciate it."
Tragically, Dale passed away far too soon, leaving many of his musical aspirations unfulfilled.
We remember you, Dale. Your untimely departure robbed us of your passion for music and the countless unfinished pieces you left behind.
