Over several years, the Kapchagay Geological Expedition carried out excavations in the Lower Miocene deposits of the Middle Member of the Chul;adyr formation in the Aktau Mountains, south-eastern Kazakhstan. During the course of this work, numerous fossil remains were uncovered, including well preserved finds of carnivores: amphicyonids (;daphoenines;), ursids (hemicyonines) and mustelids. The remains of ;daphoenines; represent the first known record of this group in Asia. They are assigned to the Aktaucyonini, a new tribe comprising middle- to large-sized amphicyonids characterized by: a shortened facial region; reduced P/1; enlarged canines and premolars as well as an enlarged P4/ with well-developed protocone, paracone and parastyle blade; enlarged M1/ and M2/ with tuber-shaped protocones, symmetrical talons and reduced hypoconules; the M2/ is transversely widened and has a strongly reduced metacone. A specimen of the hemicyonid Phoberocyon is assigned to Cinctocyon n. subgen. on the basis of proportions and morphology of M/1 (anterior-lingually directed paraconid and high and posteriorly located metaconid) and of the well-developed, cusp-like paraconid on M/2 forming a trigonid groove with a narrow and incomplete opening to the lingual side of the tooth. It is the first record of Phoberocyoninae for Kazakhstan and for the western part of Central Asia in general. The carnivore assemblage from the Aktau Mountains resembles the one from Shanwang locality in eastern China (MN4-5).

В течение многих лет Капчагайская геологическая экспедиция проводила раскопки в нижнемиоценовых отложениях среднего яруса чульадырской формации в горах Актау на юго-востоке Казахстана. В ходе этих работ были обнаружены многочисленные ископаемые останки, в том числе хорошо сохранившиеся останки хищных животных: амфиционид ("дафенин"), урсид (гемиционид) и куньих. Останки "дафенин" представляют собой первое известное упоминание об этой группе в Азии. Они отнесены к Aktaucyonini, новой трибе, включающей амфиционид среднего и крупного размера, для которых характерны: укороченная лицевая часть; уменьшенный P/1; увеличенные клыки и премоляры, а также увеличенный P4 / с хорошо развитыми протоконом, параконом и парастильной складкой; увеличенные M1/ и M2/ со вздутыми протоконами правильной формы, симметричными талонами и редуцированными гипоконулями; M2/ расширен в поперечном направлении и имеет сильно редуцированный метакон. Экземпляр гемиционид Phoberocyon отнесен к новому подроду Cinctocyon n.  sungen. на основе пропорций и морфологии M/1 с расположенным в передне-лингвальной плоскости параконидом и со сравнительно задним положением метаконида, М/2 с хорошо развитым коронкообразным параконидом, образующим треугольную бороздку с узким и полуоткрытым отверстием на лингвальной стороне зуба. Это первое обнаружение Phoberocyoninae в Казахстане и в западной части Центральной Азии в целом. Популяция хищников в горах Актау напоминает таковую в местности Шанванг в Восточном Китае (MN4-5).
