The Grey Wolf Who Was a Prince

The Grey Wolf Who Was a Prince
 Who Was a Prince

based on a story by Daniel Ryberg

In a far, faraway kingdom, there lived a young prince.
He was very handsome and kind.
All the girls in the kingdom dreamed of marrying him.

But deep in the forest lived a wicked witch.
She also wanted to marry the prince.
But she was not allowed in the royal palace.

So she made a plan.
She used magic to make the prince come to her.

One day, the prince went hunting and got lost in the woods.
He found a small path and followed it.
It led to a beautiful house — the witch’s house!
But the prince didn’t know that.

He walked in.
Lights turned on by themselves.
Doors opened in front of him.
There were sweet fruits and tasty drinks.
He felt happy and safe.

Then he saw a big warm pool.
He jumped in and swam with joy.
Soon, a beautiful girl with red hair came into the water.
She smiled and played with him.

Then she said,
— I want to be your wife.

The prince shook his head kindly:
— I already have a fianc;e. I love her.

At once, the girl turned into the old wicked witch!
She was very angry.
She couldn’t hurt the prince — but she could curse him.

And she did.

She turned him into a grey wolf.
His body was covered in warm fur.
He tried to call for his mother and father, but no words came.
Only a lonely howl.

He was now a wolf.

But wolves have a strong nose.
He smelled a familiar path — the one back home.
He followed it.
As he walked, he thought about his parents.
He felt sorry and hoped they would forgive him.

When he came near the castle, the guards saw a wolf and shouted.
They didn’t know it was the prince.

Just then, a little girl near the gates was surrounded by angry dogs.
The wolf ran to help.
He jumped into the circle and stood next to her.

His eyes burned like fire.
His teeth were sharp and scary.
The dogs stopped.
Then the wolf growled and hit the biggest dog with his paw.
The dog ran.
The others ran too.

The guards watched in silence.

The wolf walked to the girl and gently licked her hand.
She stood up and hugged him.
Then she kissed the wolf on the nose.

Suddenly — the wolf became the prince again!

The girl smiled. The people cheered.
The prince and the girl walked to the castle hand in hand.
And they lived happily ever after.

From that day on, no one feared wolves.
Because who knows — maybe it’s a prince under a spell.
