Yesterday I listened to a speech: Live / Jeffrey Sachs’ Speech Goes Viral After Trump–Zelensky Fiery Oval. Some of his statements struck me, and I even felt like publishing them.
Sachs said:“American system — it is system of image. It is media manipulation every day.
“It is a PR system and president can’t function.”
«We don’t speak truth about everything in world.”
«Bombing Belgrade — 78 days in 1999.”
“From September 2001 — for 5 years, 7 wars.”
“American senators are nasty, clinical and corrupted that you cannot imagine.”
Senator Blumenthal said next to Sachs: “Nobody Americans died, we just spent money.”
; These revelations of Jeffrey Sacks strongly echo my book Hell and Paradise, where I wrote about mechanisms of harassment, lies, and manipulation inside the American system.
But there is a paradox. When I was openly persecuted here, when I wrote complaints to the Senate, to Congress, to the UN, when I published a book at my own expense about what was happening to us — Sachs remained indifferent. He talks about Russophobia, but violations of human rights in his own country do not concern him. He loves to sprinkle general phrases. Open violations of human rights in his homeland are, for this “intellectual,” not an important problem.
He accuses Trump of lacking intelligence, but he himself is a cold, insensitive man who only thinks about his personal well-being. Personal enrichment is his main direction, and his public activity serves mainly to establish connections with the wealthy and influential. People like me do not interest him. He is not concerned with those who are tortured, humiliated, denied even the most basic civil rights.
After 33 years in this country, I still cannot receive legal documents: no freedom of movement, no right to work, no medical insurance. And through what mockery and sadism we have gone here! Having no possibility to reach legal organizations, and no money for famous lawyers, I wrote about it in my book. But Jeffrey Sachs lives in another world — his billionaire fortune does not allow him to be sensitive to the suffering of others, even if they, like me, also once worked as economists and showed leadership. He knows very well how to appropriate the successes of others.
I myself worked as an economist in the USSR and once wrote to the Central Committee the idea of Perestroika — and it was accepted, though later carried out in a distorted form, because power was seized by careerists. And the philosopher-careerist Jeffrey cooperated with those same careerists. As a result, we have what we have. And like the Russian careerists who remain in power, Jeffrey Sachs also built a billionaire fortune. They are all “in business”: one day organizing wars, the next day playing the role of peace-makers.
But none of these cataclysms affect their nutrition, their housing, their access to high-quality medicine, their ability to travel and to perform like actors in the European Parliament. And we — without legal documents, without freedom of movement, without medical insurance, without access to dentists — watch these performances. We are sold, bought, mocked, tortured. But Jeffrey is interested only in global problems. The individual does not matter to him. He is interested only in those with wealth and high social status, in the collapse of countries, where enrichment is also possible. For him, the main goal remains personal enrichment and personal well-being.
Yes, he speaks about Russophobia. But he does not raise a much more important question: why does a Russian passport today give less freedom of movement than, for example, an American or an Argentinian one? Why are millions of people in Russia intimidated and persecuted, unable to freely criticize power, while leaving the country is an enormous problem?
People like Sachs always stay close to power. Today he says the right words, but they are empty — as long as he himself remains part of the same PR system, where the central goal is his own enrichment and personal comfort.
