Eyewitnesses from British Swindon filmed an explosion that occurred in a printing company in an industrial area.

The video shows a bright red flame rising into the night sky,

"I really hope that no one was injured," wrote an eyewitness.

The explosion occurred at the ESP Smile printing company. It was felt by residents of nearby houses, whom the police evacuated last night. Residents of other areas were not evacuated because it was not necessary.

Rescue services were working at the scene. Three fire brigades are still there and monitoring the situation. An investigation into the cause of the fire has already begun.

An explosion and huge fire has destroyed Unit 2 of the Swindon premises of print-on-demand specialist ESP Smile.

The explosion at ESP Smile’s large-format printing unit on the Groundwell Industrial Estate happened at around 7.30pm yesterday evening (24 September [2025]). It was felt more than a mile away with local residents taking to social media to describe how their homes and windows shook due to the blast.

The subsequent fire could be seen for miles, and caused emergency services to evacuate nearby units and the immediate area with a large cordon in place and residents urged to keep windows closed.

The incident made the national news, and posts on X included dashcam footage of the actual explosion, as seen below."

"ESP Smile specialises in digital and inkjet printing of personalised products such as canvases, hard and soft cover books, photo gifts, mugs, large-format print and e-commerce fulfilment, with ESP offering its own API to integrate with e-commerce sites. ESP businesses have been part of Gelato's production-on-demand network since 2017. 

The firm’s website says it typically receives more than 3m orders a year, with the ability scale in peak periods. Pre-Christmas peak season is underway now.

The industrial estate is also home to the PicsMe operation.

Printweek understands that Units 5 and 6, which house ESP's sheetfed inkjet setup, are not affected.

ESP Smile is a sister company to ESP Colour, based around two miles away on a different industrial park in the town. Both firms are part of the Handel Group.

Printweek was unable to reach ESP Colour CEO Simon Smogur for comment at the time of writing.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue initially sent 12 fire engines and specialist vehicles to the scene including an aerial ladder platform and water canisters. It described the site as a “warehouse”.

Crews from neighbouring Fire Services in Oxfordshire and Gloucester also supported the efforts to bring the blaze under control.

Power had to be isolated in the local area, with the incident eventually scaled back at 1am with four engines one aerial ladder platform still on site at that time.

Firefighters remained on the scene overnight, and three crews were still in place this morning (25 September).

Jim Robbins, the leader of Swindon Borough Council, posted on X at about 5am today after receiving an early morning briefing on the situation.

He said: “Still no casualties being reported which is great news.

“The major incident status has been stood down and the clean up operation is beginning.”

He also paid tribute to the emergency services and Council response teams.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said an investigation into the cause of the fire would continue today."

Wiltshire Police described the incident as serious and set up a large cordon, urging nearby residents to stay indoors and keep windows closed due to smoke.

The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS)
deployed 10 fire engines and specialist vehicles. Crews are using aerial ladder platforms and ground monitors to bring the fire under control. An investigation into the cause will begin once the site is safe.

Witnesses described hearing a “massive loud bang” that shook nearby homes.
Jason O’Grady, owner of a martial arts gym 200 metres from the site, said ceiling tiles fell when the explosion hit: “At first staff thought a car had hit the building. Luckily, everyone managed to get out quickly.”

Residents reported seeing flames and heavy smoke rising above the estate, while many took to social media saying their homes shook from the blast.

Authorities also confirmed a power outage affecting 77 properties, with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) isolating the supply due to safety concerns.

Local people gathered on pavements near the cordoned-off area, with one BBC reporter describing a mood of “uncertainty and fear.”

Хвост самолёта «вырвало» перед взлётом в столичном аэропорту Шереметьево.
Все пассажиры были эвакуированы из салона обратно в терминал.

Как сообщили SHOT
пассажиры рейса FV 6097 авиакомпании «Россия»,
который должен был вылететь в Санкт-Петербург
сегодня в 20:30,
самолёт внезапно остановился на взлётно-посадочной полосе.
На борту Sukhoi Superjet находилось около 100 человек.
Пассажиров удерживали в салоне ещё примерно 40 минут,
после чего самолёт начали буксировать на стоянку.

По словам очевидцев,
«на рулёжной дорожке вырвало руль направления».

Причины инцидента пока не известны.
В настоящее время люди ожидают в терминале.

Ранее Life.ru рассказывал, что более 350 пассажиров рейса Самара — Анталья устроили массовый протест в аэропорту из-за многократной задержки вылета. Его несколько раз переносили — сначала из-за закрытого неба, потом в связи с отдыхом экипажа, а позже представители авиакомпании Azur Air объявили о технической неисправности воздушного судна.
