Russia’s annual budget for 2025 is $430 billion. Defense — 13.49% social policy — 6.49% culture — 0.23% education — 1.58% national security and law enforcement — 3.46%.

I used to think only people from Russia’s outskirts — from poor regions — were sent to fight.But no, it turns out Moscow sends its own too.Near the capital, they’ve even built a cemetery city, where the “heroes of the war” are buried — mostly young men.They built a separate city so that mothers could come and cry — without disturbing Moscow’s prosperity and joy.After all, as the famous Muscovite Ludmila Ulitskaya once said: “It’s indecent to be unhappy.”
And yet, if Russia had withdrawn its troops and ended the war, those $140 billion could have gone straight into Putin’s pocket.Some journalists say that’s exactly why the mercantile Donald Trump met with Putin in Alaska — to see if the man was still sane.Can he really throw away $140 billion just to destroy another million Russian boys — and their Ukrainian brothers?
No, Putin doesn’t care.He’ll sacrifice anything to make as many people in Russia and Ukraine miserable as possible.The main thing is to help America patch up its budget.
Andrei Kozyrev, former Russian foreign minister, said it plainly: all that was needed was to withdraw the troops — and Putin could’ve kept sitting on his throne, blowing his trumpet about his “victories.”
The war is often justified by claiming that NATO moved eastward, breaking its promises.That’s what some American political analysts say.And the great economist Jeffrey Sachs, as usual, jumped out of the box like a jack-in-the-box — when the fire was already raging — and started a global scandal:
“How can you not see what’s happening? NATO has expanded east, west, north, and south!”
Why didn’t anyone raise that alarm before Russia started the war and invaded Ukraine?
