Happy Family
Under my wife's thumb I'm stuck,
I never asked for very much,
So how did I get in this debt?
And now it's all my fault, they say,
We're three salaries short each month,
To cover all the family costs —
Well, at least I don't drink, hurray!
I used to be a free man once,
Had time, and money, and good friends,
But friends just lead you off your path,
Or so my loving wife contends.
We are a happy family:
A cat, a dog, the kids, the wife,
But if I'm honest, truthfully,
This happiness could cost my life.
I dream of running off somewhere,
Where worries didn't weigh us down,
Where we were free, without a care,
And life was loved without a frown.
But now we owe each other so much,
Everything comes with a price, it seems,
Our relations have become such a crutch,
And life's a river of winding streams.
