Little Ian and his two kittens

One day, little Ian got a homework assignment from school: he had to write a short poem.

And so he did! The next morning, he stood before the class and proudly read:

We treat our cat with milk and fish broth,
She gave birth to kittens — two, not both.
They’ve grown a little, though not a lot,
And now for the Liberals they want to vote!

The teacher smiled.
“That’s a very clever poem, Ian,” she said.
And for the next week, she gave the class a new task — to write another poem that would continue the story of the first one.

Ian worked hard and, once again, stood before his classmates:

We treat our cat with milk and fish broth,
She gave birth to kittens — two, not both.
They’ve grown a little, though not a lot,
And for the Conservatives they want to vote!

It was, indeed, a different poem — at least because one word had changed.
But this time, the teacher and the students looked a little puzzled.

“This is also a good poem,” said the teacher, “but how come your kittens changed their minds in such a short time?”

“That’s simple,” Ian replied.
“They’ve grown a bit more — and their eyes have finally opened.”
