2. The Seven Planes of Being
First, the First Ray — the Ray of Will — gives birth to the Logoic Plane of Being,
the Plane of Planetary, Solar, and Galactic Logoi.
Here the Divine Sparks appear,
bestowing Life upon countless Monads.
On the Monadic Plane they are born,
emerging under the influence of the Ray
of Divine Love and Wisdom.
And the movement of the Monads begins
through the sevenfold cycles of Rounds, Wheels, Chains, and Kingdoms.
And in this vast whirl of Being the Monad — the seed of Spirit, or Atma —
grows and endlessly develops its atmic body.
And under the action of the Ray of Active Knowledge
the Atmic Plane is brought into manifestation.
Here the Monads come to know themselves, the World of Spirit, of Being, and of God.
Through infinite cycles of evolution they pass through all the Kingdoms:
from the Mineral to the Kingdom of Logoi, through the animal and human realms.
In Spirit there emerges a Soul, or buddhic body.
Under the influence of the Fourth Ray the Buddhic Plane becomes manifest.
Here Spirit learns the Love and Beauty of the Divine World,
passing through the conflicts of Energies, bodies, and the Planes of Being.
Striving for Heavenly Harmony through Active Cognition,
Spirit swiftly acquires Mind, giving birth to the mental body
on the Fifth Plane of Being.
The Mental Plane brings forth the Fifth Ray,
and concrete knowledge arises.
Here numbers and formulas are born, and diagrams —
which will one day manifest in matter.
But the rational Spirit also wishes to feel and perceive the outer world.
It wishes to live and delight in the bliss of Paradise and of Love.
And thus the Sixth Plane appeared — the Astral Plane with astral bodies,
the Plane of Emotions, named after the little stars — the sparkling energies.
And it is governed by the Sixth Ray — the Ray of Devotion and Idealism.
And finally, the atom of the Cosmic and Physical Plane becomes manifest
under the influence of the Seventh Ray of Order and Spirit-Matter.
But this plane, like all the others, has seven subplanes,
and only our own — the forty-ninth — can we see, feel, and perceive.
