4. The Kingdoms of Nature

And the Kingdoms of Nature too are seven, and they are governed by the Rays.
The Seventh Ray of Magic and Order holds dominion over the Mineral Kingdom.
Under its influence crystals and minerals of every color are born,
and every newly manifested Monad is destined to pass through it.
Having reached perfection within the precious stones, the Monad moves onward
into the Vegetable Kingdom of Being. It is ruled by the Sixth Ray —
the Ray of Devotion and Idealism, corresponding to the Astral Plane.
And perhaps that is why flowers stir so many emotions in us.
And Spirit, having descended into matter on the lowest step of Being,
walks the road of Evolution, to return to the Father, becoming God.
Having attained perfection in the beauty of the flower, it enters the world of animals.
Here it develops its mind under the governance of the Fifth Ray.
It comes to know the Mental Plane and creates thought-forms of great beauty,
and in the next Solar System it passes into the Human Kingdom.
The Fourth Ray rules this Kingdom — Harmony through Conflict.
Here Spirit develops the Soul and learns the harmony of Love.
Cultivating the buddhic body on the Buddhic Plane of Being,
Spirit awakens from its long sleep,
and here begins the eternal struggle — the struggle of Matter and Spirit.
The Soul suffers between them until it has undergone the crucifixion,
and having subdued the Ego, it moves into another Kingdom.
And in the Fifth Kingdom — the Kingdom of Souls — Spirit learns divine Wisdom.
Of this God’s Kingdom Christ spoke, saying that it is within us.
The Third Ray of Knowledge rules it on the third, atmic Plane of Being.
Here Spirit develops its consciousness and comes to know eternity and itself.
And beyond this, Spirit becomes a Christ — a Teacher of Divine Love
and Wisdom; or perhaps an Avatar,
or a Buddha, a Krishna — all of them
belong to the Sixth Kingdom.
They have known the eternity of Spirit and the Power of Wisdom-Love.
They are one with the body of God, and they themselves are Gods for the Earth.
The Lords of Compassion and the Teachers of Wisdom all dwell in this Kingdom,
and it is ruled by the Second Ray on the monadic subplane.
And only a few can pass into the seventh Kingdom —
the Kingdom of the Logoi, governed by the Ray of the Divine Will.
Here dwell the Logoi of Planets
and of Solar Systems, Galaxies, and Universes.
To this Kingdom leads one single Path among the seven
that open before a Great Initiate.
