The "alien ship" abruptly changed its course
Astronomy Loeb: 3I/ATLAS may head towards Jupiter after course correction.

MOSCOW, Nov 24 — RIA Novosti. The 3I/ATLAS interstellar object could have been designed to land technological devices on Jupiter, Harvard University scientist Avi Loeb expressed this opinion in his blog.

"To this end, 3I/ATLAS must reach Jupiter's gravitational radius, the so—called Hill radius, within which Jupiter's gravity is stronger than the Sun's gravitational field," he writes.

In his opinion, this was the reason for the recent non-gravitational acceleration of the interstellar object, which could have been aimed at correcting the course of 3I/ATLAS relative to Jupiter. Otherwise, the astronomer explained, he would have missed the required area.

"This suggests that the level of non—gravitational acceleration has been fine-tuned to bring 3I/ATLAS exactly within the radius of Jupiter's gravitational influence," Loeb says.

At the same time, the astronomer believes, if specialists manage to discover any technological satellites of Jupiter, it will mean that it is of interest to an extra-terrestrial civilization.

The 3I/ATLAS interstellar object was spotted on July 1. Scientists later determined that it was a comet from another star system. Its coma (a cloud of gas and dust around the core) is about 24 kilometres in diameter. The computer model showed an approximate age: more than seven and a half billion years — three billion older than the Sun. It may be the oldest comet ever observed.


In September, Avi Loeb reported that the 3I/ATLAS interstellar object flying through the Solar System had undergone an "anomalous evolution", starting to change its colour.

In August, the scientist said that 3I/ATLAS emits its own light, similar to the glow of a car's headlights, while the source of the glow has not been identified. He suggested that 3I/ATLAS could be an artificial object with a powerful energy source capable of generating light visible from millions of kilometres away.

In early November, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory reported that a space object had demonstrated the first evidence of non-gravitational acceleration by performing an unexpected manoeuvre as it approached the Sun. As Loeb himself suggested at the time, an unknown mila could act on 3I/ATLAS, which caused it to deviate from its trajectory as it approached the Sun.

Last week, NASA released new 3I/ATLAS images at a special press conference, confirming that this interstellar object is a comet that came from another star system. They clarified that they observed her movement throughout the entire period of her stay within the Solar System.
