RATIONS FOR REAL SOLDIERS
The Russian-Ukrainian front. Russian positions. A field kitchen. The cook speaks with the captain.
Cook:
— Comrade Captain, there are rumors… that the porridge has rat meat. And they say that all the canned meat was stolen by the staff officers.
Captain:
— Canned meat is a surrogate. A real soldier needs real food. And to silence the slanderers: we soak the meat in vinegar, add extra pepper to the porridge, and top it off with fried onions.
