les aventures d un idealiste

  Currently reading Isaac Singer’s “Les aventures d’un idealiste.”
 
  Have you heard of him?

  Neither do I.

  I came across this book by accident. I went in a bookshop (obviously) and was wandering around when I saw this book cover. It was in the same section with Fyodor Dostoevsky. I have seen some Russian books translated in French; I took none (I consider it a blasphemy (кощунство) to read Russian literature in translation).

  So, neighboring with Dostoevsky made this book attractive to a restless mind, and the fact that it includes set of small stories made it even more lovable (I don’t like to either leave the story unfinished or continue to read what doesn’t sound interesting), so here we are.

  Love the format (short stories) and the style. After a couple of stories, it started to remind me of another author, and I took some time to recollect which one. Eureka! It was similar to Sergei Dovlatov. A Russian immigrant, he is the author of many books and stories about his life, written with an adorable sense of humor.

  So, this Isaac is very similar to Dovlatov (much less sarcastic than the second one, though). I check in the wiki, and what have I found? They are both Jewish (Dovlatov is half-Jewish). 

Nothing wrong.

Just surprised.
