Russophobia and the Civil War in the United States
And in 1861, her husband died. Victoria had already been Queen of England for two years. Then, Grand Duke Alexander Nikolaevich, the future Emperor Alexander II, arrived in London. And the young queen's Russophobia suddenly vanished. She was so enchanted by the Russian prince that Victoria's feelings for him reached the point of meeting him alone. In short, the queen had no objections to marrying Alexander, and if he proposed, Victoria would accept.
But Alexander did not want to exchange his future status as Emperor of All Russia for that of Prince Consort under the reigning Queen.
From that moment, Victoria was convinced that the Romanovs could not be trusted in anything. She repeatedly and publicly denounced the Romanovs in general and Alexander II in particular as "plebeians and upstarts." Alexander II returned the favor, declaring Victoria an "old English fool," even though she was a year his junior.
Victoria transferred these feelings to Russia and the entire Russian people. The English historian Edward Freeman observed: "More than one generation of Englishmen has been brought up in the conviction that the primary national duty of every Englishman is a blind and unthinking hatred of Russia."
The most part of the Duchy of Warsaw was annexed to the Russian Empire "in perpetuity" under the name of the Kingdom of Poland. Poland remained part of the Russian Empire formally until 1917, but de facto until 1915, when it was occupied by German and Austro-Hungarian troops during World War I.
In January 1863, a Polish national uprising began in the Kingdom of Poland.
To weaken Russia, the British and French governments decided to intervene in Polish affairs, declaring their support for the rebellious Poles.
As a preemptive measure, it was decided to dispatch naval units to the shores of North America.
At the time, the United States was engulfed in the Civil War, and the presence of friendly naval forces in its ports was in the interests of the Northern States.
Mutual understanding with Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, was quickly reached. This was facilitated in no small part by the skillful and proactive work of Captain 1st Rank Lesovsky, Russia's naval attach; to the United States.
On June 25, 1863, Emperor Alexander II signed an imperial permit authorizing the dispatch of cruiser squadrons to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to operate on British trade routes in the event of hostilities.
Two Russian squadrons of sailing and propeller-driven ships were dispatched to the American coast.

Тогда как исторически Россия - всего лишь один из корыстных игроков на геополитическом поле, где вражда есть обычный инструмент мобилизации населения на пополнение контингентов поля боя.
