Story 2. The secret of the CatSnails
I wonder, will I be able to fly when I return to our world? I'll have to try.
But right now, I really want to explore Muss's world and uncover the secret of the CatSnails. Muss intrigued me, saying they have a special secret, which is why his world is sometimes called 'the World of Iridescent Snails'. Isn't that a beautiful name?
But flying to this Special place where the CatSnails live takes quite a long time, so Muss suggested we take the tram again.
We arrived at the place, and I was absolutely amazed – the CatSnail settlement was multicoloured! Actually, each quarter of this magical district was lit by its very own light. A young CatSnail we met explained to my delighted and astonished exclamations that the different colours mean CatSnails with different magical properties and characteristics live there. The lilac district is home to the so-called 'transport CatSnails'. This completely baffled me. And that slyboots Muss, seeing my bewildered expression, just chuckled quietly, covering his nose with a snow-white paw.
Of course, I absolutely had to find out the secret of the CatSnails! After a quick consultation with Muss, a little Tram Snail offered to take us to the Master of Transformations, for only she could reveal the Secret to me. As we travelled, I spotted several Flying CatSnails and was utterly captivated by them.
The Master of Transformations welcomed us warmly and said she had been expecting my visit for a long time (at this point, Muss gave me a sly wink). But to learn the secret of the CatSnails, I would have to try transforming into one myself. Hmm, a bit scary… but curiosity got the better of me, and I agreed.
Instantly, an orange snail shell appeared on my head, and the light changed. We found ourselves in the Orange District, where the House-Snails live. They spend almost their whole lives in one place, but if they want to, they can certainly move, even taking their residents with them. But becoming a House-Snail didn't appeal to me; it's a rather long process – growing from a tiny 'baby' into a full-grown House. And I so wanted to learn more about this World and its inhabitants.
The next district was the Pearlescent District. That's where the Tram Snails are born and live! And trees with golden leaves grow there. It's, I tell you, an incredible sight!
'Tram Snail' is a general name; actually, the CatSnails living here can turn into any kind of vehicle. But becoming a full-fledged tram – the kind anyone can use to travel between worlds – is a special privilege for the old and wise Cat-Snail-Trams!
A Tram Snail we met along the way turned out to be very friendly and curious and offered to show us the City. Muss and I gladly agreed. And then I saw something astounding – a Flying Tram CatSnail (how else could you describe it?).
I already knew CatSnails could fly. All of them, without exception. But only some become full-fledged Flying CatSnails. What they ultimately become is determined only by their own inclinations and wishes. Whether it's an Airship Snail, a Helicopter Snail, a Flying Sailing-Snail, or something else, it's entirely their choice, and they can always decide to transform into anything else if they get bored. If only our world had such a variety of possibilities! It's so dull – always a person, a person, and nobody ever asks you what you'd like to be. Maybe your soul yearns to fly and you want to soar through the air as well as our aeroplanes…
But I digress. It's always nice to daydream!
All day long, Muss and I rode around on the young Tram Snail, and she delighted us – now turning into a self-propelled Shell Carriage, now into a Sleigh Snail. What a little trickster she was! Clearly a kindred spirit!
We saw so many amazing places. We didn't even notice how night fell. Muss invited me to stay at his place. And to get to know the Flying Snails better at the same time. After all, they would be the ones to take us where we needed to go.
And so it was decided. And as soon as we decided we needed Flying Snails, the light immediately changed, and we found ourselves in their Town. First, we visited the tiniest ones – the 'babies' of the Flying CatSnails – in the Azure District, and then we went to the Light Green District – the CatSnails there are considered grown-up and ready for magical transformations.
When they transform, the light changes again. This time it turned violet. An incredibly beautiful sight! Yet again during this endlessly long magical day, I thought with some sadness that it's a shame that in our world (the one where I live), everything is so fixed and permanent. It feels somehow wrong. And boring!
Meanwhile, an Airship Snail floated up to us (there's no other word for it). There was a girl on board. I'd forgotten that in this world, not only cats and snails live, but people too. How lucky they are!
The girl turned out to be the Airship Snail's friend. They fly everywhere together because it's more fun that way. Our new friends took us right to Muss's house. Meanwhile, a Sailing-Snail with passengers drifted across the sky. Or were they not passengers, but friends too? I'll have to ask Muss.
Here we are, home! I really liked Muss's little house. So sweet and cosy. But I was so tired after this endlessly long magical day that I even refused a treat. Unheard of! Never mind, I'll make up for it in the morning. Now – sleep, sleep, sleep! And dream magical dreams…
For example, about how all CatSnails (and me too!) possess amazing abilities for transformation – house-snails, tram-snails, helicopter-snails, cat-girls…. mmm…
