Song What the Soul Longs for

I came into this vain world, low and high,
But why my soul finds no delight, I sigh.
What I have sought, I simply could not find,
And this reward is heavy on my mind.
For what purpose to this world was I assigned?

For what, for what does my soul languish?
Will I ever comprehend its anguish?
Perhaps the answer soon will clear the bafflement!

What was I seeking? I, myself, don't know!
And who among the millions can truth show?
Into the Darkness, to a melody of pain,
This Path just vanishes, and nothing's gained!
What was I seeking? All my quest was vain!

For what, for what does my soul languish?
Will I ever comprehend its anguish?
Perhaps the answer soon will clear the bafflement!

And why did I suffer, fruitlessly and long?
Time rushes on, and proves all mortals wrong.
And who has not yet surrendered all his pride,
Still dreams of a saving paradise inside!
And why this fruitless pain? My heart has cried.

For what, for what does my soul languish?
Will I ever comprehend its anguish?
Perhaps the answer soon will clear the bafflement!

I came into this vain world, bright and strange,
To taste a moment's splendor, then to change.
What I was looking for, I did not find,
But I was gifted with a loving mind!
And why I lived—the answer lags behind...
Perhaps my children's children will be kind,
And in their time, the purpose be designed.

What, what is my soul yearning for?
The silence breaks upon a distant shore.
Perhaps... at last... all will be clear,
When final understanding draws near.
