Dear citizens of Russia! Veterans, home front workers, soldiers and officers! Brothers and sisters, Warriors of Light!

Today, on the Day of the Great Victory, our hearts beat in unison with the hearts of millions who passed through the fire. We honor them not merely as heroes, but as people who achieved a double victory: defeating the enemy and — which is immeasurably harder — defeating themselves. Disdaining fear, casting off the power of gold and possessions, they manifested that radiant dreaminess preserved for centuries in the Russian soul.

It is no accident that this soul was nourished by images — the wise sequence “Az, Buki, Vedi…” (“I Know God”) and the dereza goat from the old fairy tales, who leaps freely, unchained to any treasure chest. This is our code: not a hoarder, but a dreamer. Not a slave to things, but a warrior of the spirit. And when the hour struck in ’41, this soul rose to its full height.

Blessed are the Warriors who conquered themselves and their enemies, who disdained fear. They fought for our Future and made Russia invincible. Eternal glory to them and our deepest respect.

The Soviet Union took the most ferocious blows, but the Nazis’ plans shattered against a unity bound not merely by ideology, but by Faith, Hope, and Love. It was a true, spiritual socialism, where the brotherhood of nations became a living organism.

We were often told of our “savagery” and “backwardness.” Yet it was precisely this so-called savagery that preserved us as an eternal mosaic maiden, while the West became a monolithic but fragile sculpture. Rus’ has always been a gathering of many peoples, faiths, and ways of life, held together not by the iron hoop of law but by the light of Love. Mosaic is the highest design. And it is no accident that Kyiv, on the great route “from the Varangians to the Greeks,” was destined to become the world capital of Design — a place where beauty becomes a sermon, and form crowns the spirit.

We remember another lesson as well. Rus’ passed through the crucible of the Horde, and what many considered a humiliation became our greatest advantage. We erased imperial pride, and Moscow became the Third Rome — not a golden one, but a spiritual one, a blank sheet for God’s writing. Since then, Byzantium — the Second Rome — has spiritually blessed Russia for the Final Battle. The State took up the sword, and Rus’ — the sacrificial offering, believing in Resurrection.

I will say it plainly: evil is not vanquished. And if we are afraid, it means we are on the right path. Ancient Eastern wisdom says: “If you are afraid, you are on the right path.” The prophet begins with conflict, for light enters the world through overcoming darkness. But we must prevent wars, like a disease of foolishness, remembering the Ural wisdom: “He who always tries to gain often loses.”

We look to the future. Western capitals, Rome and Paris, are missing their chance, for God’s Temple cannot be built on hatred. But the Word will be given to set everything in its place:
America, passing through repentance, will take up the burden of leading Faith for the Western world.
Russia and its industrial heartland, the Urals, will become a stronghold of Love that knows no “stranger,” and this Love will continue through Turkey, India, and other countries.
The countries of the Far East — China and the entire Pacific brotherhood — will become living Hope, an unfading light illuminating the path.

Thus the promise will be fulfilled: Faith will kindle the West, Hope will illuminate the East, and Love will reign in Russia and the Urals.

“Lord, rest the souls of the fallen and make their light unquenchable. Grant us the courage not to betray their sacrifice. And may Thy Kingdom come, where Faith, Hope, and Love reign indivisibly. Amen.”
