With Ourselves
I’m lucky with myself, that’s for sure,
Said the boy to his years so young.
They want me precise, they set a score,
To bed and up — by the clock, it’s done.
Verse 2
“Wash your hands, hurry — what a plight!”
His friend and neighbour just nodded his head.
“First ‘don’t run around’, then ‘eat it right!’”
“Yeah, adults, bro, are strict,” he said.
Chorus
And they exchanged thoughts for the days ahead,
And sudden insight came, clear and bright.
They smiled, and a spark in their eyes was spread,
“We’re lucky with ourselves — that’s all right!”
Verse 3
You can dream, jump, and play all day,
There are rules — but inside, there’s room to roam.
Make up secrets, count stars in the sway,
Childhood’s joy — that’s our true home.
Verse 4
Years passed by, and those kids grew tall,
Who found their joy in dreams so dear.
In the rush of life, they’d sometimes fall,
Forgetting the heart lives on wonder, clear.
Chorus (Repeat)
And they exchanged thoughts for the days ahead,
And sudden insight came, clear and bright.
They smiled, and a spark in their eyes was spread,
“We’re lucky with ourselves — that’s all right!”
Verse 5
To their descendants they did impart:
“Remember, wherever life may go,
Guard your bright thought, as if it’s your heart,
You’re lucky with yourself — let it show.”
Verse 6
The grandkids laugh from dawn to dawn,
That same light shines, and spring’s in their soul.
The cycle of time — see it, drawn:
Life’s tradition, a sweet, old scroll.
Chorus (Repeat)
And they exchanged thoughts for the days ahead,
And sudden insight came, clear and bright.
They smiled, and a spark in their eyes was spread,
“We’re lucky with ourselves — that’s all right!”
