The Dutch Star
We surge toward its radiant height, filled with eternal love.
Unfearing as a fledgling bird that leaps out from its nest,
We fly into the great unknown, no terror in our chest.
To greatness of the brave, they sing; for cowardice is sin,
The worst of all the human flaws that corrode us within.
We stand right here, and with us stands the truth of the North Sea's glow,
Of sparkling rivers, dikes and waves, where quiet waters flow.
It burns and guides our hopeful steps; though dusty paths we’ve trod—
So many wrong turns behind us now! But still we walk the sod.
We’re here, our mischievous angels play, staging a playful show,
Defeating every enemy with one swift verbal blow.
Exiled to Earth, yet bound to Heaven, we hold our grounded place,
We run from none, we flee no threat, standing in quiet grace.
Within our souls a wild cry of "Freedom!" starts to loom—
A word conditioned by the world, weighed down by threat and gloom...
Yet that is Earth! But up above, where rainbows blend and spin,
Where stars dance round the wheel of time, a greater reign begins:
There sits a Lord with sense of humor, loving and forgiving all,
Master of time who sees us clear, yet pities when we fall.
And so the star burns ever bright, untouched by daily chains.
We're here with youth and burning faith, untamed by old remains.
With us are those who rule the globe, and those who yield to birth—
For all things flow and ever change down here upon the Earth...
