Spain

Spain as a unified nation began to form in 1469
with the marriage of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon, though its history spans thousands of years.
 Key Milestones in Spain's Formation
Pre-Roman and Roman Era (218 BC): The Romans invaded the Iberian Peninsula, naming the region Hispania, which is the origin of the name Spain.
Visigothic Kingdom (5th Century): Germanic tribes took control after the fall of the Roman Empire, establishing a unified Christian kingdom.
Islamic Rule (711): Muslim forces from North Africa conquered most of the peninsula, creating the vibrant culture of Al-Andalus.
The Reconquista (711–1492): Christian kingdoms fought for centuries to reclaim the territory from Muslim rule.
The Catholic Monarchs (1469): The marriage of Isabella and Ferdinand united the two largest Christian kingdoms, Castile and Aragon, laying the foundation for modern Spain.
Completion of Unity (1492): The final Muslim kingdom of Granada fell, and Christopher Columbus reached the Americas, launching the global Spanish Empire.
Constitutional Monarchy (1978): Following the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, Spain adopted its current democratic constitution.
