3 Line Openness 59 Gate of Sexuality
Here the line answers the question: “What emerges when I allow another to cross the boundary of my separateness?”
MORNING TUNING-FORK CALIBRATION
Canon: “You disperse your own body. No remorse.”
Closeness brings a person to the boundary that separates them from another.
As long as this boundary remains impermeable, there can be interest, attraction, affection, an exchange of words,
and movement alongside one another, while each remains within their own space.
But interaction changes when the body allows another person’s impulse to pass through this boundary.
A touch evokes a responding movement.
Another person’s thought changes the direction of one’s own.
One step becomes an invitation for the other person’s next step.
Each remains themselves, yet what is happening can no longer be created by either one alone.
A third thing emerges between the two.
The Canon calls this moment “the dispersal of the body.”
It is not the body that is destroyed — it is the former impermeability of its boundary that ceases to be absolute.
And therefore there is no remorse.
A person discovers that the boundary of separateness can open to interaction without destroying the one it separates.
Line Image — Dance as the Beginning of Closeness
Two people walk side by side, each in their own rhythm.
One movement becomes an invitation.
The other notices it and responds with their body.
The response changes the first person’s next movement.
The distance between them decreases. Impulses pass more freely between their bodies. Gradually, a pattern appears that neither partner created in advance.
They are still two.
But a dance already exists between them.
Tone — Permeability
The boundary no longer serves only to separate.
It becomes a place of exchange.
I can receive another person’s impulse, allow it to change what is happening, and respond with a movement of my own.
Permeability does not destroy separateness. It makes interaction possible.
Attunement:
I allow the boundary of my body to become permeable to interaction and discover what is born from connection with another.
Where in the Body
Anywhere!
I notice the moment when another person’s presence begins to change my body.
Does my breathing change?
Do warmth, trembling, or excitement appear?
Does my body want to move closer or create more distance?
Does a movement of my own arise in response?
I do not force the body to open, nor do I hold it closed.
I observe the degree of permeability the body allows on its own.
Frequency Octave:
Shadow — Dishonesty as Erasure of the Boundary
Another person’s impulse passes inside, but one’s own response can no longer be heard.
Instead of interaction, there is adaptation, absorption, or an attempt to dissolve into the other.
A person takes another’s movement for their own and gradually loses the ability to distinguish from whose body the next step begins.
The connection becomes closer, but nothing new emerges: one participant fills the other’s space.
Gift — Intimacy
A person allows another close enough for their presence to genuinely change them, while remaining separate enough to respond with a movement of their own.
Intimacy arises not from the disappearance of differences, but from free exchange across a permeable boundary.
From invitation and response, something begins to take shape that did not exist before.
Siddhi — Transparency
Permeability becomes complete transparency.
Between impulse and response, there is no longer an obstacle that needs to be overcome.
No one disappears, and no one holds on to separateness.
Movement flows freely through both.
Only the dance remains.
Social Role — Tester
The Tester does not know in advance what will come from closeness.
They enter the interaction as far as the living response allows and let experience itself reveal the outcome.
Compatibility cannot be proven before contact.
It is discovered in what begins to emerge between us.
Line Difference
59.1 - establishes the foundation of permeability for the first time.
59.2 — the body recognizes whom to move toward.
59.3 — the body recognizes who it becomes in interaction.
Body Button — “Is There a Next Step of My Own?”
As the interaction intensifies, I notice my own next impulse.
Does the body want to move closer, step back, stop, touch, speak, or become silent?
I do not check whether the other person likes my response.
I check something else:
After their movement, did a movement of my own arise within me?
If yes, I remain a participant in the interaction.
If my own movement can no longer be felt, I return my attention to the body and allow enough distance to be restored for me to hear my response again.
What Happens to the Energy:
Energy no longer moves only within an individual person.
An impulse passes through contact, evokes a response, and returns transformed.
A circuit of exchange emerges in which each new impulse already carries a trace of the previous interaction.
In this way, the energy of two participants begins to create a process that did not exist within either of them alone.
Reference Points:
- Before closeness: I feel my own movement and the presence of the other.
- Permeability: the presence of the other begins to genuinely change my state.
- Interaction: the change evokes a response of my own.
- Emergence: one person’s response becomes material for the other’s next movement, and a new pattern appears.
- Danger: my own response can no longer be distinguished.
- Restoring the boundary: enough distance is restored for my own movement to become possible again.
- Transparency: exchange happens freely, without the need to defend or overcome the boundary.
Line Phrase:
I let you in far enough for something new to emerge between us, while remaining able to respond to you as myself.
Gate Formula:
As I allow the boundary of separateness to become permeable, I notice my own response to the impulse that has entered and,
through the movement arising between us, recognize what kind of connection is truly capable of living.
