"As expected, last night the US House of Representatives voted to pass a bill imposing 'hellish sanctions' against Russia and Iran.

The bill allows the US President to impose tariffs of up to 100% on imports from the five largest countries importing Russian energy, as well as from five countries that help Russia evade energy sanctions.

Furthermore, it envisages tariffs of up to 500% on imports from Russia.

For the bill to take effect, it must be signed by Trump.

This bill, proposed by the late fascist Lindsey Graham, is a welcome reminder that the "civilized world" long ago condemned Russia to the same fate as Iran, and the question is solely one of timing and methods.

Iran's sovereignty was saved (temporarily saved – the author) solely thanks to the heroism and determination of its government, which set a high bar for dignity and adequacy in world politics.  Trump's signing of this bill is far from certain.

The Hormuz crisis and Houthi attacks are already posing a threat to the global energy market.

Therefore, the introduction of "hellish sanctions" under these circumstances could sharply increase fuel prices in the US and exacerbate the Republicans' electoral problems.

Furthermore, the real consequences could extend far beyond energy:

- a de facto rupture of relations with Moscow,

- a new trade war with Beijing;

- a maximum deterioration of relations with many countries attempting to maintain the semblance of "normal relations" with the US.

Since most global consumers, amid growing energy shortages, are unlikely to bow to the threat of 100% tariffs and continue to buy Russian energy resources, Washington's sanctions policy risks backfiring on itself, as is already happening in Western Europe.

Therefore, signing this hellish piece of paper could be political suicide for Trump.

 But in any case, there's absolutely nothing to rejoice about: those who will replace him are guaranteed to be no better.

Those who still don't understand that this is a war have no chance of winning."
