Sahara Poem

You seek yourself out in the world,

Then find the whole world in your soul.

As Don Quixote, windmills you hurled,

Through black and white, over greens, playing your role.

And the world builds you — in silence profound,

For loud is no wisdom. No, loud is not wise.

And news from the foolish is found,

While all that is lovely far-off lies.

What is desired rests high in palms reaching the sky.

Samsara is locked — of the high things we speak!

In the Sahara Desert, where hot breezes fly,
Were you there? Did the Gulf's breath touch your cheek?

On a black Arabian horse did you ride?

Freedom! The word that all seek, yet miss.
It's locked in the heart, and the heart opens wide.
Sea water, anoint me with your cool kiss!
