Book of Idiot. Dostoevsky life, love and passion
When Aglaya organized a meeting with Rogozhin, she did it because of her selfish intentions, trying to prove to N.F. that that in the life of the prince means nothing. In addition, Aglaya humiliated Nastasya Filippovna in front of the prince and Rogozhin, recalling her past, when she was a concubine at her patron, and therefore was rejected by society as a fallen woman. For Nastasia Filippovna, such a wound was inflicted when she could not only control herself, but for her life was in danger.
The decision to save her depended only on the prince, and that is why he could not leave her. The prince's love chose the one who was in great danger. Love rejects selfishness. Therefore, the prince, saving Nastasya Filippov, refused his happy marriage to his beloved girl. The prince neglected himself, his life, which for many people seems incredible: to give his life to another. The everyman, of course, will call such a man an idiot. I think that the Christian writer Dostoevsky, as the basis for this act, the prince took the parable of the Lord “about the lost sheep.”
“If anyone had a hundred sheep, and one of them was lost, would he not leave ninety-nine in the mountains and not go to seek the lost?” (Matt. 18:12). What is depicted in this parable is constantly in the life of every shepherd. The shepherd does not care about the rest of the flock, because he knows that animals will not die in it, they will not be in danger. But the lost animal may disappear, perish. The love that exists within a person towards other people is directed in their actions primarily to those who need help more than others. Love “DOES NOT SEEK TO BE” (1 Corin 13:5). This is true love and it is only from God!
Dostoevsky wrote very well about love and passion in his novel Idiot. “In the preparatory materials about the feeling of Rogozhin to Nastasya Filippov, it is said: ‘passion-direct love’ (unlike the ‘love of vanity’ by Gani Ivolgin and the ‘love of the Christian’ by Prince Myshkin). It hurts Parf;n that he never waited for a retaliatory feeling, and he understands it. And this feeling, of course, also caused Rogozhin to be angry and hatred of her after satisfying his sexual relations with her. Perhaps the annoyance was added because of the money spent on her, when he did not find the love for himself in her, and he understood it in the first hours when he possessed it.
Passion should be reasonable and this is possible only on the basis of love. What is the spirit of man, and the spirit belongs to the mind, such are the actions of man. Love is a passion, but not the other way around. I liked the words from the article “Love or passion?”: “Love cannot exist within passion. And passion can often exist within the limits of love. Passion cannot include love.”
The thing is that a person, unlike animals, can and must own passions... So passion in sexual relations should not lead to sin, bad deeds. In short, man should not be like a pig, animals. Passion should be reasonable and this is possible only on the basis of love. A weak-willed and dissolved person who cannot own his passions must beware of his life, because he can be expected from all abominations, meanness and nasty. And in this case, a person who does not understand this becomes an animal, but unlike an animal, he can be mentally, spiritually and physically sick, and this can bring him suffering.
