The Return of Spring
Heaven's light descended bright,
Pure and mighty, full of love,
Into a world bereft of light.
Lost within the graceful weave
Of silver branches, supple, fair,
It erased the grief we grieve
And all the sorrows mortals bear.
Lost in dreams and reverie,
In a world of velvet dreams,
I stood upon the edge, forlorn,
And wept without a tear, it seems…
There, upon the precipice,
A glimmer suddenly shone,
And my soul began to rise,
Past the cliffs, beyond the stone.
Over waters vast and wide,
Through the skies it soared along,
Brushing with its wing the tide,
Where the waters sang their song.
Like a sudden flash of flame,
That dream of all that once had been
Burst to life, no longer tame,
In a glow of golden sheen.
It conquered every sorrow,
And never drove true love away;
Breaking vows, it rose anew,
Born from fire, it found its way.
It melted every icy stream
And banished darkness from the night,
Like a phoenix from a dream —
Heaven's daughter, pure and bright.
Like a wondrous, mighty vision,
It arose from slumber deep.
And the soul took flight once more…
And spring returned from sleep.
