                Нити невидимые во мгле.

Шторы в окне, кружевные бороды.
                Тени, мелькающие по земле.

Дождь, ночь, фонари метаются,
               Ищут опору своим лучам.

          Тени... мелькают и расступаются.
             Тени, внимающие ночам.

           Тени людские, квадраты жёлтые,
               Листья, шумящие на ветру.

Нити на брызги в ночи расколоты,
Чёрных дверей деревянный стук.

Вновь... Ночь. Тополя светящиеся,

                Черёмуха цвела.

И было слышно соловья
                В саду из-за угла.

Не знаю, был ли этот сад?

И был ли этот дом?

Но много-много лет назад

Я жил в краю родном.

Не знаю, был ли этот сад?

И был ли соловей?

И мой ли дух, и мой ли взгляд

Терялся средь ветвей?

Но он скользил по всем холмам,

По граням милых стен;

Бежал по пенистым волнам,

Не зная, что блажен.

Не ведал он, творя Парнас

И торопя года,

Что каждый миг, и каждый час

Бесценен был тогда.

" Осенним днём,
 
           ни солнечным,
 
          ни тусклым,

            Глядело небо синью из-под век.

           В тени от зданий, переулком узким - Шёл человек.


Неверным светом окна перегнуло

В стекольный глянец, липкий, словно лак.

От солнца в тень бросался переулок,

Ругаясь хриплым голосом собак.

В проёмах стен объёмистые дыры

Бросали холод снегом из руки.

И в тишине расплывчатым пунктиром

Бегущий воздух резали шаги.

А я стоял в изломе перекрестка,

Неверный страх ворочался на дне;

Усталым псом, плетущимся с поноской,

Угрюмый призрак близился ко мне.

Всё ближе, ближе шарканье подошвы;

Всё тише шелест листьев и травы.

Вот тишина метнулась, словно кошка,

И затаилась в лоне синевы.

Но минул он, как нас минует время.

Оно уйдёт, а мы уже в другом.

А мы не видим, мы кричим со всеми

Кому-то вдаль за вечностью вдогон.

Уже прошёл, уже за поворотом,

Но всё как будто стало не таким,

И было что-то до переворота

Теперь уже развеянное в дым.

Только чуждая степь за тобой колышется:
            Даль цветная у глаз впереди волнуется.

Мне твой голос беспомощный ветром дышится:
            И не знаю я: кажется мне или чуется.

Все дороги,
      как реки,
           где глубь бездонная:
                Ни челна,
                ни плота у них не причалено.

    Мне разлука с тобою:

             Как ночь бес-сонная,

                Ночь глухая,

                Без-звездная,

                Не-скончаемая."

" Уже затих мой Временный Приют,
Зажглись созвездья, потемнели зданья.

Ночь воду льёт на мельницу мою,
Миротворит и шлёт напоминанье...

О том, как вдруг нечаянно простят
Лишь тех, кто сам умел прощать нежданно,

О том, что сон целителен и свят,
О том, что он дарован невозбранно.

В моём углу опять горит свеча,
Плывет мой профиль величаво странный.

И свет идёт от каждого луча
Еловых перьев птицы деревянной,

Повисшей над моею головой.
А я борюсь с навязчивой дремотой.

Но всё ж не сплю.

Вдруг голосок живой -
Донёсся мне, как пенье от киота…

Чей это сладкий голос надо мной? "
