Bulat Ayukhanov Булат Aюханов и Рудольф НуреевMr. Bulat Ayukhanov is a citizen of Kazakhstan, living in its capital city, Almaty. He is a top choreographer / http://proza.ru/diary/yuri2008/2008-09-01 / and ballet star in this beautiful country. I met him several times in 1995-2005 and asked him about his friendship with Rudolf Nureyev before Nureyev immigrated to France in 1961. He told me about his close friendship with Rudolf. They became friends when they studied ballet together at the same school: 1956-58 (Russia, USSR). I came to Almaty in 1998 for a very special purpose - to celebrate Ayukhanov’s 60th birthday. I delivered to him a very precious gift left to him by Nureyev as Rudolf requested of me before he died in 1993. 1998 is a very unique date for Rudolf and Bulat as they were born the same year. This year united the dead Nureyev with his living friend. So, under the great ovations of our friends in Almaty, I presented him with the painting ‘The Guardian Angel of Bulat Ayukhanov ’He was overjoyed to receive this hand-delivered gift from Australia. He kissed my hands in gratitude as he knelt, and said: ‘Thank you Matthew for my unexpected unification with Rudolf. I will remember this for the rest of my life. I kept my heart for Rudolf Nureyev’s friendship in the freezer because if I take it away from it, I will die from a heart attack. Now I am not afraid to take it out any more as I can live with such a beautiful painting which I will keep by my bed. Thank you for such pleasure. You make me young and happy’. It was indeed a very liberating time for me standing on a stage in front of a crowd of a thousand people as we embraced in friendship. Bulat told me of Rudolf’s passion for collecting the prints of famous paintings, a habit which began when both boys were studying ballet in. Ayukhanov was a witness of such passion for great paintings as could be found in Russia’s museums. Bulat was fascinated by the news I brought to him: ‘Bulat, do you know anything about Rudolf Nureyev’s post-mortal will in which he created an award to be presented in your name?’ He was surprised and happy to accept this honor. Actually, Rudolf Nureyev painted nine original oil paintings. He delivered all of these paintings to Yuri Matthew Ryuntyu in St.-Petersburg, Russia in 1992. Following his studies at the Academy of Science, Yuri Matthew RYUNTYU moved to Sydney (Australia) and worked, most notably, as a medico-biology scientist. A prizewinning scholar and academician, he has published a 45 books of literary and cultural criticism, including <The Recipe for the Genius>, <The Requiem for the Foresee>, <The Grate Surrenders>, <Abreast and Profile of The Imperial Russian Ballet> and <The Apostolic Silver Age of Russian Culture>.
