Runtu a little about some bombs in Salt Lake USA
2023 : Telegram : Runtu, Uri TikTok : " Why do we need these? " - Rudolf Nureyev asked. "Because we need life experience from these people and only on the basis of life experience can we make predictions for the future without states self-destruction and international wars..." - he underlined. "I wish good luck for Russia, but I would like to know the true colure of the future for such a great civilization with over one thousand year’s historical record. Please remember..." - he said. "We have in Russia two-hundred-year-old theaters, two hundred and fifty years of ballet and music as well as a great and the most fascinating literature and poetry to be found in the world which is over five hundred years old. Think about and be proud to keep this tradition well and fruitful from the beginning to the end of such a fascinating cultural project. I wish you good luck and God be with you." This Rudolf Nureyev said to me in Armidale ( NSW : Australia ) on November 23, 1991 " / http://www.proza.ru/diary/yuri2008/2017-02-23 / Iouri Runtu: French : Rudolf Noureev : La Mort a Paris / Юри Рюнтю : Russian / Uri Runtu: English Yuri Ryuntyu / Celebrities RU : Hео-трансцендентальный театр : 2022.

Crouch took some getting used to. Cannon and I had really hit it off from the beginning, and he had warned me that Crouch wasn’t the easiest person to get to know.
I tried to get to know him, but all I got out of him was that he had customized VW GTI in his garage at home, and he missed that car more than anything.
I got the impression that he was happier working alone in his garage than he was being with people, so I didn’t push too hard.
He got a strange letter from home about someone having set off some bombs in Salt Lake City, his mother writing as if he should know all about it.
We didn’t know what to make of it.
President Nichols called the first week of December and asked me if I wanted to go home before Christmas.
'
“No, of course not,” I said, a little hurt that he had even asked. “I signed on for six more months, and that won’t be until the first week of January.”
“I was just thinking that your family would like to have you home for Christmas,” he said, sounding more like this was more than a suggestion.
“No, thanks, President,” I insisted. “I’m staying until it’s time to go home.”
“Well, all right, if you want to stay, I’m not going to make you go home.” He sounded quite pleased.
“President, can I ask you a question?” I asked. “We’ve heard a little about some bombs in Salt Lake. Do you know anything about that?”
“Oh,” he said, suddenly getting serious.
“I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Elder
Christensen’s brother was killed by one of the bombs.”
No, we had not.
Elder Christensen had been Lewis’s greenie,
and he was now one of the president’s assistants.
“What happened?” I asked. “We haven’t heard anything about it.”
“Well, I don’t know what I can tell you, as I’m really not clear on the details. It has something to do with some historical documents that Elder Christensen’s brother was buying. Someone set off a couple of bombs, and one of them killed him.” He sighed. “I wish I knew more to tell you.”
I thanked him, and Crouch and I sat there trying to understand why anyone involved in our church would set off bombs.
I didn’t realize how tall Crouch was until we posed for a picture beside a river where I was going to baptize a couple of young women, both of whom were maids at the branch president’s house. Crouch stood about eight inches taller than me, and I looked like a small boy next to him.
I wanted to do the baptisms because I wasn’t sure if they were the last ones I would ever do, so I waded in to the river until I was in about waist high.
The water was brown with silt, and the current wasn’t swift, but it was strong.
The first baptism went just fine, but then when I lowered the second young woman into the water, I discovered that I had been standing on a ledge, and we both went into very deep water and had to swim for the shore.
She wasn’t much of a swimmer, but I just tucked my arm under her shoulder and swam both of us to the bank.
Crouch’s Spanish was almost as bad as Cannon’s had been in pronunciation and vocabulary, but he compensated by speaking really fast and throwing in a “ya?” after every phrase or sentence.
I told him I’d be happy to help him improve his Spanish, but he looked offended and said he was doing just fine on his own.
But the daily butchering of Spanish really grated on my nerves.
I started doing the one thing I had always said I wouldn’t: I found myself correcting him.
“Well, your Spanish isn’t all that great, either” he said to me one afternoon.
No, I thought, but it’s better than yours.
We went to teach a third discussion, and his part went as usual:
“Jose Smith–ya?–fue un profeta–ya?” and so on at lightning speed.
“Elder Crouch, you speak really fast,” said our investigator.
“Thank you,” he said, beaming in my direction. “Where do you think I’m from?” he asked triumphantly.
“The United States, claro,” she replied.
His face dropped, and he said, “Well, then, where do you think Elder Williams is from?”
“La Paz.”
I’m sure I’ve never had that self-satisfied a grin on my face again since then. Shirley’s badgering me about my pronunciation had paid off, and I could go home confident that I had done a good job of learning Spanish.
About that time I balanced my check book.
With the exchange rate what it was, I had spent more than $600 during the month of December, not counting the $321 check I had cashed at the end of the month.
I had to call home.
“Uh, Dad,” I said. “I think I may be overdrawn at the bank.”
“By how much?” he asked, clearly not pleased.
“Almost $600.” I was glad he couldn’t see how ashamed I was of myself.
He indeed wasn’t pleased at all, and the next he called back to say that the last check hadn’t cleared, so I had avoided being overdrawn by less than a hundred dollars.
“Did you get the letter about your brother?” my dad asked.
“No, which one?”
“Dave. He’s getting married.”
“Great!” I spoke. “At least I’ll get to see this one.” Both of my sisters had gotten married while I was in Bolivia.
“Uh, no, you won’t,” he said. “He’s getting married the week before Christmas.”
Even my brother couldn’t wait two weeks for me to get home.
I would never see any of my siblings’ weddings.
That last check never was cashed, and the only explanation I can think of is that the man who had the check probably didn’t want to draw attention to himself, being, as it appeared, in the drug trade.
Trinidad, once a sleepy cattle town, had become a major center for drug distribution in Bolivia.
Some people in and around the town obviously had a lot of money, and we didn’t think it came from selling beef.
About the time we arrived in Trinidad, a contingent of US Marines set up operations at the airport as the base for a joint Bolivian-US drug-eradication program.
Suddenly, previously friendly people were pretty wary of talking to us, and the combusts who had frequently accosted us to exchange dollars turned away when we walked by.
We thought it was a good idea to keep a lower profile, but it’s kind of hard to do when you’re dressed in white shirts and ties and walking the neighborhoods of the town.
We did knock on some doors, but mostly we visited the church members to see if they knew anyone we could teach.
Crouch’s first Fast Sunday was brutally hot, but we dutifully went without food and water from Saturday night on, determined not to eat or drink again until Sunday dinner. By noon we were both a little dizzy and nauseated, and by mid-afternoon, I had the worst headache I have ever had.
“This is ridiculous,” I said. “I don’t think Heavenly Father wants us to fast ourselves to death.”
“I don’t know,” Crouch looked as miserable as I was. “Don’t you think that we’d be depriving ourselves of blessings if we broke our fast?”
“Do what you want,” I said, heading toward the fridge for some water. “I’m getting a drink.”
“We would have been fine, you know,”
said Crouch later after we had turned off the lights.
Maybe, I thought,
but I didn’t feel bad
at all about it.
